Our work falls into five main areas:

Promoting health through music therapy

We offer bespoke music therapy/psychotherapy for individuals, families and groups – enhancing social, psychological and physical wellbeing.

MusicAbility also provides clinical supervision to other music therapists and student placements for trainee therapists.

We support people with a wide range of health needs, in partnership with other organisations including schools, residential homes, and day centres.  We welcome family and self-referrals too.

Education through music

Developing a well-rounded, creative mind-set for all, particularly young people, through the many benefits that music can offer including musical proficiency, personal awareness, and the uplifting experience of teamwork in action.

Principally delivered through a network of string orchestras and occasional music courses and by providing music education and teaching services for partner organisations.

Quality pre-professional training

Bridging the gap between local aspiration and the national/international level of expectation for those hoping to be the professional musicians of tomorrow.

Includes supporting talented individuals through mentoring, and signposting to other relevant services and providers of financial awards.

Developing good teaching practice

Offering new and creative approaches to the challenges facing instrumental teachers through enriching training and professional development opportunities.

Includes supporting young musicians who would like to teach in Cornwall and providing professional development opportunities for peripatetic teachers.

Public education

Promoting audience understanding and connection to music through active and engaging concert presentation.

As well as promoting concerts in partnership with Concerts Penzance and Golowan Festival we also present lots of concerts given by young people and concerts given by people of different age and experience.
