MusicAbility embraces the unique and life-enhancing potential of music to stimulate a broad spectrum of educational, creative and health benefits within the community. Our mission is to use music as a catalyst for the development of personal abilities, cultural awareness and participation whilst generating social, psychological and physical integration

Our work falls into these five main areas:
promoting health through music therapy
We offer music therapy/music psychotherapy programmes for individuals, families and groups. We aim to support and improve people’s psychological, social, neuological and physical health & wellbeing at any stage of life
MusicAbility also provides clinical supervision to qualified music therapists, and placements for trainee therapists & professional returnees
We support people with a wide range of health and/or social needs across all ages – often in partnership with other organisations including schools, residential homes & centres. We welcome family and self-referrals too
education through music
Developing a well-rounded, creative mind-set for all, particularly young people, through the many benefits that music can offer including musical proficiency, personal awareness, and the uplifting experience of teamwork in action
Principally delivered through a network of string orchestras and occasional music courses, and by providing music education and teaching services for partner organisations
quality pre-professional training
Bridging the gap between local aspiration and the national/international level of expectation for those hoping to be the professional musicians of tomorrow
Includes supporting talented individuals through mentoring, and signposting to other relevant services and providers of financial awards
developing good teaching practice
Offering new and creative approaches to the challenges facing instrumental teachers through enriching training and professional development opportunities
Includes supporting young musicians who would like to teach in Cornwall and providing professional development opportunities for peripatetic teachers
public education
Promoting audience understanding and connection to music through active and engaging concert presentation
As well as promoting concerts in partnership with Concerts Penzance and Golowan Festival we also present lots of concerts given by young people of different ages and experience
